Section Outstanding Volunteer Award
To recognize members of Central Illinois who, through their professional and technical abilities, have
made outstanding and noteworthy contributions to the IEEE, local communities, fellow professionals, and mankind. The award does not recognize a single achievement, but rather collective contributions complemented by singular works exemplifying IEEE’s objectives and attributes.
Section Outstanding Professional Award
To recognize members of the IEEE Central Illinois Section who, through their technical abilities, have made outstanding contributions to their profession. It acknowledges the development of new technical concepts, significant patents, development of new devices, development of applications, new designs,
considerable cost reductions using known techniques, etc.
2024 Award Winners:
Jamal Shafii (Section Outstanding Volunteer 2024): Shafii has received the 2024 Section Outstanding Volunteer in recognition of exemplary contributions to the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). Additionally, Shafii has served in the local IEEE executive committee and the IEEE Central Illinois Section Technical Activities Committee Co-chairman, and maintains active projects with IEEE Central Illinois Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society.
Darryl Palmer (Section Outstanding Volunteer 2024): Palmer has received the 2024 Outstanding Volunteer Award in recognition of exemplary contributions to local K-12 education and student outreach. Additionally, Palmer has served two concurrent positions in the local IEEE executive committee, including IEEE Central Illinois Educational Activities Committee (chair), and IEEE Central Illinois Computer (C16) Society Chair.
Dinup Sukumaran (Section Outstanding Professional Award 2024): Sukumaran has received the 2024 Outstanding Professional Award in recognition of exemplary contributions to the field of fiber optic communication integrated circuits (ICs) and US Patent 12,126,312 B1 (October 22, 2024). In addition, Sukumaran has been one of Central Illinois’ most active IEEE volunteers: serving as both the IEEE Central Illinois Section Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Chapter chair, and the IEEE Central Illinois Section Technical Activities Committee co-chair.
